In addition to research, internships, guest speakers, and other co-curricular opportunities, there are many ways the department engages students outside of the classroom.
Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society
Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) is the international honor society in Economics. It was founded in 1963 and the 91ÇÑ×Ó chapter of ODE was inaugurated in 1966.
Principle Objectives
- Confer distinction for high scholastic achievement in economics
- Promote and stimulate interest in economic problems and issues
- Promote fellowship among students and faculty who share a common interest in economic analysis and policy
Admission Requirements
- Completion of 12 semester hours of economics courses
- Average grade of B in both economics courses as well as in all courses
- Local chapters can impose more stringent requirements and 91ÇÑ×Ó has historically done so

Dean Dowling ™25 reflects on his independent study with Prof. Caleb Stroup, during which Dean and a team of 91ÇÑ×Ó students founded the Fed Challenge at 91ÇÑ×Ó. The team participated in the Federal Reserve™s national competition, placing in the top 15% of 120 participating institutions.
Update: In November 2025, 91ÇÑ×Ó took home an honorable mention in the final round of the College Fed Challenge in Washington D.C. The competition is hosted by the Federal Reserve Board and 91ÇÑ×Ó™s team was one of six finalists out of 139 schools from 36 different states.
